Plum Landing’s October Newsletter

Meet the New Activities Coordinator and Driver
I’m excited to announce two new members of our staff. Kathy Goheen has joined us as our new Activity Coordinator. Kathy’s an Aurora native with a lot of great ideas and energy. Kathy also has first hand experience with Plum Landing since her grandmother, Dee Ahasic, lived here. She’ll be looking for your input as she settles in and gets to know all of you. Mark Flaherty has joined the driving staff. Mark worked with the City of Aurora for many years and is from Aurora originally. Please welcome them both!

Don’t forget to Register to Vote!
In order to vote in the general election on Nov. 4th, you need to be registered by Oct. 7th. Since we have a number of new residents, we’ll be making a trip to the Aurora Election Commission this Thursday, Oct. 2nd, at 9 am. We’ll be leaving from the 6th floor.
You must present 2 forms of current I.D., one of which MUST include your current address. This can be a Drivers License, State I.D., Social Security card, credit card, library card, personal check, utility bill, etc. Remember they must be unexpired and have your current address. Please sign up.

VNA Flu Shots Oct. 23rd
The VNA will be here providing flu shots on Thursday, Oct. 23rd from 9:30 – 10:30 am on the 4th floor. It is free with your Medicare card, otherwise the cost is $25.00. HMO participants (Humana) are not covered and will need to pay the $25.00, or get the shot from their doctor. We have sheets at the Front Desk for you to fill out ahead of time to keep things moving. Please bring your Medicare card with you when signing up.

Kuipers Orchard Shop & Bakery
We’ll be making our 9th annual bus trip to Kuipers Family Farm on Thursday, Oct. 23rd. We’ll be visiting the Orchard Shop & Bakery, which has apple cider donuts, fudge, other fresh baked goods, and lots of other good stuff to eat, drink, or decorate with.
It’s located just west of Elburn, so it will be a nice ride in the country also. It should be about 30 minutes each way, plus another 30-45 minutes at the shop. We will leave here at 1:00 pm, and should be back at Plum Landing by 3:30 pm. Come join us for what should be a great trip. And don’t forget to sign up!

Lifelong Learning Institute Presentation
The Lifelong Learning Institute is an open membership organization for adults age 50 and older actively engaged in the pursuit of knowledge. In a stimulating peer-learning environment, members plan, lead, and participate in courses, course-related trips, and social events. Join us and learn more about it on Friday, Oct. 24th at 2 pm in the Dining Room. This is part of the “Fourth Friday” presentation series.
