Mother’s Day Reservations

Please make reservations if you plan on dining here on Mother’s Day. It’s one of the busiest days of the year, and we want to make sure we seat everyone properly. Please let the Front Desk know by Friday, May 9th if you’ll be joining us. We’ll also make reminder announcements next week. I also want to take this opportunity to remind you that we do have gift certificates available that would make a wonderful Mother’s Day gift. We have Beauty Shop, Laundry, Courtesy Car, and meal gift certificates available. For more information please give us a call at 630-896-5031. Thank you.

Kentucky Derby Party

Mary and Mary Lou will be hosting our 7th Annual Kentucky Derby party Saturday, May 3rd, at 4 pm on the 3rd floor. Light snacks and beverages will be served, culminating with the running of the Derby at approximately 5:20 pm. There will also be a $3 wager available if you’re interested. The Derby is known for the fancy hats the ladies wear, so don’t forget yours. Don’t miss “the most exciting 2 minutes in sports”!

Great Horned Owl Expedition

Come join us as we check out the Great Horned Owl nest in the park next door on Thursday, May 8th, at 8:30 am. Hopefully we’ll be able to see Mama owl and her 2 babies. We’ll be led by birder extraordinaire Vernon LaVia and his telescope again. Remember the hawk nest last year? Should be a great time. Thanks also to Annette Wood (Vern & Lorene’s daughter) for spotting the nest again. We’ll meet at the Front Desk. Don’t forget that you can also follow our Facebook Page for more updates and pictures!

Mary’s Retiring, Sort of

I think most residents know by now that Mary is retiring from her position as Activities Director, a job she has done for 30 years! Her last day will be May 16th. That’s the bad news. The good news is that she’ll remain as our on-call person, living in the Stone House, and doing lock-up during the week. I want to take this opportunity to thank her for the great job she’s done all these years. We are in the midst of searching for our next activities person. I will keep you posted on our progress. They’re big shoes to fill, but I’m confident we’ll find someone that can grow into the position and do a great job. This will also be a perfect opportunity for residents to let us know what you enjoy doing now, and what activities you might like to consider for the future. Thanks again for everything Mary!!
