Aurora University Tour
I went on a tour of Aurora University a couple of weeks ago with Jim Pilmer, their Senior Development Officer. Most of you know I was born and raised in Aurora, yet the transformation of what used to be Aurora College into Aurora University amazes even me. I mention this because I think many of you would be interested in some of the programs they offer throughout the year. I saw a lot of work being done while I was there since the students are pretty much gone over the summer months.
I will be getting more detailed information from them, but some of the things to do include the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures, and the Arts and Ideas Program featuring programs such as guest speakers and musical productions. Crimi Auditorium and Perry Theatre are beautiful and comfortable venues. We even discussed a narrated bus tour of the campus to see all that has changed and what their future plans include. It was an eye opener and I think you’d enjoy it. If you have any specific ideas or thoughts on how we can better utilize AU, please contact myself or Mary. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Aurora Electricity Supplier Update
You should have received a letter in the mail by now regarding the change in the City of Aurora’s electric supplier from Commonwealth Edison to FirstEnergy Solutions. The agreement with FirstEnergy calls for a rate of 4.71 cents/kWh, and is for a two year term. You currently pay 6.214 cents with ComEd, so your rate will drop by about 25% during the term of the contract. The city expects the new rate should take effect in August. To become a part of this new agreement, you do NOT need to do anything. It will happen automatically. To opt OUT of this program and stay with ComEd, you need to return the opt-out form at the bottom of the letter. I would recommend you accept the new supplier. That means you DO NOT have to do anything further. Please feel free to see me with any questions.
No Waiting on Studio Apartments!!
We have studios, but only a few one-bedrooms, that are ready for immediate move-in. We even have a few budget-friendly apartments, for those people who need to save a little money. Now is a great time to get settled in a new place and enjoy the rest of the summer, or plan ahead and be ready for the fall. I would be happy to send a brochure, or give a lunch tour to interested seniors & their families. Contact Amanda at 630-896-5031 to schedule a time.
